A major growth in the economy is due to Abu Dhabi Oil Company

When we think of Dubai, the first thing that comes to our mind is ultra-modern architecture, huge skyscrapers, luxurious shopping malls and a lively night life. This city, located in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to the south eastern coast of the Persian Gulf, is a perfect example of manmade excellence in terms of architecture. The global city is also known to house the key oil producers. Oil and gas companies in Dubai have been major driving forces for the economic growth in the area.

Companies like Abu Dhabi Oil Company, headquartered at Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, is one such company that has driven the GDP in the region. Ranked as eleventh largest company in the world, it produces petrochemicals, crude oil, natural gas and other oil products. The company, which is responsible to provide livelihood to around 25,000 people, is considered to be a super major and is the largest company in the United Arab Emirates. Founded in 1971 and restructured in 1988, is one amongst the globes leading oil reserves. It is involved in the production of both onshore and offshore gas. The company is investing around $1.2 billion to build headquarters with more than 300 offices for its management.

The United Arab Emirates ranks seventh in the world, in terms of oil reserves, with around 97.8 billion barrels. Most of the reserves in the UAE are located at Abu Dhabi. The region alone holds 94% of the UAE’s total oil reserves. Revenues generated from oil and trade have been major factors driving the economic growth in the region.

The economic development of the region is clearly reflected through its architecture. Architecture companies in Dubai have gifted the city the most remarkable ultramodern structures that have global recognition and are admired for pushing the design boundaries. The city has huge shopping mall and hotels with underwater rooms.  Few popular architects with buildings in Dubai include Foster + Partners, Zaha Hadid, Snøhetta and UNStudio.
